Guess who came to school today?

We had a really special visitor come to our school library today to read and sing with Team 1. Can you guess who she is?

She even brought her soap and scrubbing brush in case we were dirty. Mr Wishy-Washy bought her a new pair of slippers and matching bucket as the old ones just wore out!

Discovery Day with Team 2.

We were really tired on Friday after production. Then we had a Discovery time with Team 2. We had such fun. Everybody was really busy creating or discovering. We were sad when we had to pack up but we did some sharing afterwards.
We had some indoor activities using maths equipment that makes us think hard and problem solve.

We had to do lots of discussion and negotiating to get this waterway made.

Do you like our farm?

We just love playing in bubbly water.

This was a problem to be solved. We had to connect the pieces and make the water course water-tight!

We love making things with old boxes.

Mrs Guy comes to our School

On Wednesday, Mrs Guy came to our school to read us her book called "Snooty Stanley Plays a Prank". It is a story about an unkind cat who plays a trick on another cat. In the end Snooty Stanley has an accident and he learns the Golden Rule - "Treat others as you would like to be treated". We hope Stanley has learned his lesson. Mrs Guy loves writing books for children just like us. It was a very special visit for Team 1 & 2.
Mrs Guy showed us her new book.

All of Team 1 & 2 listened to Mrs Guy reading her story.

Snooty Stanley and Lorenzo  were very unkind to Clementine the Calico cat.

Deakan said a big thank you to Mrs Guy from all of us. Aren't we lucky meeting a real author.
(Did you see a butterfly on each
page?)

Maths Discovery

We had a Maths Discovery time on Friday. There was all sorts of Maths equipment set out for us to choose from. Blocks, balances, maths games, marble tracks, 100's boards and mats, beads and threaders and lots more. We had fun discovering with the activities. Here are some of us discovering!

A visit from the Room 17 Chicks

On Friday, some of the girls from Room 17 brought their newly hatched chicks over for us to meet. They had 12 eggs in the incubator and 12 chicks hatched. We are going to get a visit from them again in a week or so , so we can see how much they have grown. They don't have a Mother so the Room 17 children have them in a special box with a heated light to  keep them warm.

Summer told us the chicks eat mash and drink water. When they get older they can eat seeds and scratch around in the ground for yummy things like worms. Thank you for sharing Room 17.

A visit from The Dental Nurses

Welcome back to Term 3. We are starting the year with taking a good look at our Dental Health and making sure we have sensible food in our lunch boxes.

Today we had a visit from Nicola and Jane to teach us how to clean our teeth correctly.
Nicola and Jane brought huge teeth and a huge toothbrush with them.

Riley is learning to do flicks from the inside.

Daniel is flicking the front teeth.

Stevie is doing circle on the outside.

Asjah is doing circles on the outside teeth at the back.

Ava is working out which type of brushing to do.

We also learnt these important things:-

*We must brush our teeth for 2 minutes in the morning after breakfast and after tea.
*Mum , Dad or another adult or big person must help us until we are 8 years old.
*We mustn't rinse the toothpaste off our teeth when we finish brushing with a soft brush.
*We must only use a small piece of toothpaste the size of our small nail,

And the song that helps us is:-

"Round in circles, round in circles,
Scrub, scrub, scrub.
Flick around the inside, flick around the inside,
Teeth are clean, teeth are clean."

Grandma Jenny Reads To Us

Grandma Jenny comes and reads to us on a Tuesday afternoon. We love to have her visit our class and talk to us. She is a special Grandma and she asks us really good questions about the  stories she has read to make sure we understand any tricky words. Thank you Grandma Jenny. :)

Visiting Author Sophie Siers

Today we visited the town library to issue books. But we had a really big surprise. There was a visiting author called Sophie Siers who has a book in the NZ Book Awards as a finalist. It is called Allis the Little  Tractor. Sophie read us her wonderful story about a little tractor that is standing alone in a paddock and wants to get going like John Deere the big tractor. Toby and Uncle Jack finally get some oil, water, petrol and a new battery and get Allis going - you have to crank her to start the tractor. And away they go having adventures. It is an excellent children's picture book and we loved it. We got a signed copy for our school library too. Sophie let us ask questions. We had a great morning.

Nikki is reading us a great story called "Grandpa" before Sophie arrived.

Here is Sophie and Nikki.

Sophie read her wonderful story to us and we loved it so much that we didn't make a sound!

Mrs Gyde's Alice made the tractor on the wall. She is so talented. It made an excellent artwork

Our New Farm

Today Jarnah and Billie brought their amazing model farm over for us to play with, as they have finished using it for their erosion project.

We are allowed to play with their farm using our farm animals. We are going to be very careful with the farm as the girls have made some special objects and we don't want to break them. They have made a dog kennel, a barn, a bridge, a lawnmower, a sandpit, a garden and heaps of other things.

Thank you so much our special big friends.
