Dannevirke South School ANZAC Ceremony 24-4-15

This afternoon we held a very special ceremony for ANZAC Day. We had lots of important guests. We even had an old Soldier from WW2. His name was Mr Olsen. Our Mayor, Mr Ellis came and Major Dalgleish spoke. He is Jack's Dad. Mr Irwin played "The Last Post" on his bugle. Here are some of the photos from this very special afternoon.

We are all waiting quietly for the ceremony to start.

Our Head Boy Jordon, did the official welcome.

Can you see Mr Irwin playing his bugle? Pippa is getting ready to raise our NZ flag.

Here is Major Dalgleish talking about all of the soldiers from Dannevirke South School who went away to war. Can you see the crosses behind him? Those have the names of all of our ex South School pupils who went away to WW1 and died. It is very sad.

These clever senior girls wrote a special song for ANZAC Day . It was a lovely song and they performed it so well. We are very proud of them.

Here we are sitting by the crosses and wreathes after our very special ceremony. Can you see the poppies we made to wear? If you come and look on our ANZAC wall you will see why we wear poppies on ANZAC Day.

Kerb Drill with Constable Kendrick

We are listening to Constable Kendrick tell us the Kerb  rules before crossing a road.

Deegan, Caleb, Arthur and Payton are all using their eyes and ears to check for traffic.

Harry, Tamati, Jasmine and Leah all know we must hold hands, especially with an adult if we are crossing the road,.

Brayden and Ryder were using their ears and eyes as they crossed the road with Constable Kendrick.

We found a friendly cat who wanted to do safe crossing on the pedestrian crossing with us!

We looked both ways as we crossed on the "Zebra" pedestrian crossing.

Tennis with Oscar

On Thursday, we went to the hall to learn some tennis skills. Some of us were very nervous about learning tennis skills but Oscar was great and by the end of the lesson, we all had big smiles on our faces as we were so happy with what we had learned. Thanks Oscar!

Netball Skill Building

We were really lucky on Tuesday afternoon. Stacey came up all the way from Wellington to teach us Netball Skills for 5 and 6 year olds. We got very good at all the skills and at the end of all the skill building we had a game. We are learning to not step when we are holding the ball. Rochelle helped Stacey and some of the big children from Room 7 helped us too. We were really proud of our skills we now have and we will be ready to play "Future Ferns."
