Dannevirke South School ANZAC Ceremony 24-4-15

This afternoon we held a very special ceremony for ANZAC Day. We had lots of important guests. We even had an old Soldier from WW2. His name was Mr Olsen. Our Mayor, Mr Ellis came and Major Dalgleish spoke. He is Jack's Dad. Mr Irwin played "The Last Post" on his bugle. Here are some of the photos from this very special afternoon.

We are all waiting quietly for the ceremony to start.

Our Head Boy Jordon, did the official welcome.

Can you see Mr Irwin playing his bugle? Pippa is getting ready to raise our NZ flag.

Here is Major Dalgleish talking about all of the soldiers from Dannevirke South School who went away to war. Can you see the crosses behind him? Those have the names of all of our ex South School pupils who went away to WW1 and died. It is very sad.

These clever senior girls wrote a special song for ANZAC Day . It was a lovely song and they performed it so well. We are very proud of them.

Here we are sitting by the crosses and wreathes after our very special ceremony. Can you see the poppies we made to wear? If you come and look on our ANZAC wall you will see why we wear poppies on ANZAC Day.
